Gabriella Giaconia is an artist and art educator based in Brooklyn, NY. She has been creating and making things since as long as she can remember, and always knew she wanted to be an artist. Growing up surrounded by handmade things and pieces that told stories shaped her artistic practice. Embroidery pieces made by her mom, intricately made wooden furniture from her grandfather, homemade baked goods from her nani, Sicilian recipes made with love from her papa, and curated antique items thoughtfully sourced from her grandmother all influenced the work she makes today.

Gabriella creates original pattern paintings, embroideries, and watercolors, heavily inspired by the design, colors, and feeling of the Mediterranean region. She is interested in pattern work that explores the balance between masculine structure and feminine flow, transforming rigid systems into calm, expressive compositions. The repetitive, handmade process is meditative- helping to quiet a busy mind while allowing small variations and imperfections to bring warmth and whimsy to structured patterns.

In her most recent pieces, inspired by a transformative trip to Sicily, the motifs evoke the landscape, art, and culture of the region, in connection to her ancestors, offering a personal exploration of their land.
